Don’t worry about being bored while on your Texas Hill Country vacation. With so much to see and do, your weekend getaway may turn into a week-long adventure! From the Texas wine country trail to quaint hill country towns like Wimberley and Fredericksburg, you will find something new and exciting around each corner. Following are some of our favorite hill country attractions.

The Inn Above Onion Creek icon is the orange volcano in the middle of the map.

This embedded interactive google map allows you to click on the various icons to see what's in the area and will also give you the ability to print directions. You can zoom in and out of the map using the plus/minus signs on the top left side of the map. You are also able to change the sattelite view to a map view in the top right hand corner of the map. If you have google earth installed on your computer you can zoom around the map in 3D earth view, which can be very fun.

We have tried to add as many of the popular hill country destinations as possible but if there are fun places that you think we should add please let us know. We are always on the lookout for fun and exciting things for our guests to do during their hill country vacation.

Wineries

Mandola Winery is a short 10 minute drive from the Inn and offers tours, tastings and great food at Trattoria Lisina restuarant.

Driftwood Vineyard is about 10 minutes past Mandola's on CR170 headed towards Wimberley. The vineyard sits on a hilltop overlooking the rows of vines below and the views are spetactular.

Bella Vista Ranch located just outside of Wimberley, TX is the first commercial olive oil producer in Texas and offers guided tours on Weekends. Bella Vista Cellars, part of the ranch, produces wines in small quanities and can be sampled along with the award winning olive oils in the tasting room which is open Thursday through Sunday.

Wimberley, Texas

Wimberley, TX is about 12 miles from the Inn Above Onion Creek and without a doubt is the most popular destination for guests staying at the Inn. That's because there is so much cool stuff to do in Wimberley. Here are some of the more popular spots for guests to visit.

Wimberley Glassworks is the premier custom blown-glass designer in Texas. Stop by Wimberley Glassworks workshop Wednesday through Saturday to see glass blowing demostrations as the local artistians work their magic with glass and fire. The gallery houses amazing works of art and is open Tuesday-Saturday. Closed Sundays & Mondays.

Wimberley Zipline: Experience a rush as you soar over canyons and creeks with breathtaking 15-mile views of the Wimberley Valley. Their course includes eight separate ziplines for a total of 3/4 of a mile of exhilarating zipline fun.

Red Corral Theatre is an outdoor movie theater running from May to the first weekend in October. Movies start at dark-thirty but be sure and get there early as it fills up fast. Movies are shown Friday-Sunday.

Wimberley Town Square & Wimberley Market Days: The town square in Wimberley Texas offers quaint hill country shops and art galleries as well some tasty eats. It's a great place to spend part of an afternoon while visiting the Inn. On the first Saturday of March thru December Wimberley Market Days take place in town square. There are dozens of local vendors offering local arts & crafts, food & and fun!

Golf Courses

Plum Creek Golf Course is a 10 min. drive from Inn on Kohlers Crossing, east of Hays High School. Driving range, putting green, and 18 hole championship course.

Grey Rock Golf Club is a great course in South Austin at Circle C Ranch. It's a challenging course with beautiful oak lined fairways.

Quicksand at Woodcreek is located in Wimberley, Texas. It's a semi-private 18 hole course surrounded by the charm of the Texas hill country. It's narrow fairways challenge you to hit it straight.

Hiking

Pedernales Falls State Park in Blanco County, east of Johnson City, is a beautiful Texas state park where you can hike,tube,mountain bike and fish. 830-868-7304

Hamilton Pool Preserve is an amazingly beautiful natural pool that is located in a box canyon. You take a quarter mile hike down into the canyon where you will be greeted by 100 ft Cypress trees lining the creek that flows out of the pool. You make your way to the end of the canyon where a 50 foot waterfall pours down into the pool year round. The views are absolutely amazing! Swimming is allowed at certain times of the year and there is a small sandy beach where you can lay out and enjoy the sun.

Other Activities and Attractions

Water Sports: Cool off in the crystalline waters of spring-fed swimming holes, sparkling lakes and emerald flowing rivers. Swim, or go tubing in the San Marcos, Guadalupe, Comal, and Blanco Rivers - all within 45 minutes.
