Emeril Lagasse Visits the Inn!

As you may know, Emeril Lagasse honors a special mother every year with breakfast in bed, live on Good Morning America the Friday before Mother’s Day. This year’s surprised mother is the secretary at nearby Wimberley High School and we were fortunate enough to be chosen by the producers to be the staging area. As part of the very early morning elaborate ruse, Mrs. Uhlander was asked to assemble the student body in the gymnasium at 6:30 am for a “story on successful high schools”. Imagine her shock as an iron bed, which had been transported by Isabel from the Inn, was carried out by the football team and Emeril Lagasse appeared and announced to her that she had been selected as Mother-of-the-Year and was she ready for her breakfast in bed! To the delight of all the students, she climbed on the bed as her family and friends congratulated her on being a great mother. A former student delivered the Bananas Foster French Toast (recipe) to the stunned Mrs. Uhlander.

Later that morning, our chef, Adrian Galindo, was able to serve Emeril the scramble eggs and 8, yes, eight, pieces of bacon that Chef Lagasse had requested for breakfast after everyone had returned to the Inn following the live remote event. All of us found that Emeril is even nicer in person than he appears on TV and all the GMA producers and staff are wonderful, too.
