Guest Impressions

"This was our first stay at a B&B and we have committed to return as this was no comparison to even some of the finest hotels. We were treated so well and the accommodations were beyond expectations."
M & L, Houston, TX

"Our only difficulty was waking ourselves from the deepest, sound sleep in the world's most comfortable bed to make it to breakfast. We are forver spoiled. Nothing compares to the Inn Above Onion Creek!"
K & B, FL

"We've enjoyed the opportunity to slow our clocks down. The serenity offered by the quiet and beauty of the Inn has helped to smooth the frayedness of our "rapid transit" lives. The time, effort and concern we've seen here put you in a special category. Thank you for the wonderful respite."
J & L, Katy, TX

"We were able to enjoy this the day after our marriage. Our first night together we stayed in one of Dallas' finest hotels; paid much more, got much, much less. Everywhere I look is a perfect snapshot. The food, the bed, the bathroom and the views are splendid. What a great place to be in love!"
N & A, Bellaire, TX

"Thanks for the opportunity to enjoy a peaceful and gracious setting for our 2 day present to each other. You have a terrific sense for transforming bedrooms into luxurious retreats. What a treasured gift to be able to assist people in restoring a sense of romance, peace and newness into their lives and relationships, a profoundly important task for all of us and it has become a vocation of yours."
W, Austin, TX

"What an extraordinary place! We expected a fine Inn but our imagination didn't prepare us for anything as excellent as this. And a most helpful, smiling staff as well. We feel that you all have contributed so much that you've created a most unique and gorgeous retreat."
F & T, Dallas, TX

"You have created a delightful retreat which certainly exudes an aura of tranquility. The accommodations are excellent and luxuriously appointed and far better than most B&Bs. You are gracious hosts and we wish you success. Not only so we hope to return, but we shall go out of our way to recommend this haven to all our friends and colleagues."
A & W, San Angelo, TX

"We're not big on staying at bed and breakfast inns; but when we read about this one in the Dallas Morning News, we knew immediately that it would be special. We decided to spend part of our 18th wedding anniversary celebration here, and from the moment we arrived, we have been absolutely delighted with each and every aspect of our stay here. To us, it is the best of two worlds, the charm and ambiance of a home built to reflect a historical era and the pampering of first-class hotel with every possible luxury and convenience. We'll come again!" - E & S, Rowlett, TX

Namesake Story

Fergus Kyle served with the Texas Rangers and later was a Confederate soldier during the Civil War, advancing to the rank of Captain after the Battle of Shiloh.Kyle was a farmer and stock raiser following the war and decided to follow his father's footsteps by entering the political scene. He was first elected to the 12th Legislature of the State. During the 17th and 18th Legislatures he served as Sergeant-at-Arms. Kyle is best remembered for his co-sponsorship of the bill which resulted in the purchase of the Alamo by the State.

Kyle married Anna Elizabeth Moore in 1860, and they had nine children. Kyle and his wife's family sold a total of 200 acres to the I&GN Railroad Company for the sum of $1 to build a town which bears his name. Fergus Kyle was described as a colorful and picturesque figure, standing 6'2" in height. He always wore Confederate gray with his trousers tucked into his boots. On his lapel he wore the picture of Andrew Jackson. This picture was taken from the locket given by "Old Hickory" to his father, Colonel Claiborne. Kyle's boyhood home, known as the Kyle Log House, built in 1850 and restored in 1982, can still be seen on Stagecoach Road southwest of Kyle on the banks of the Blanco River. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is believed to be the last remaining example of a "linear dogtrot, four-pen house" in Texas.

On May 19, 1906, Texas papers carried the following headlines: "Pioneer Passes to Majority" "Captain Ferg Kyle is Dead" "He Obeyed the Last Order of Stonewall Jackson" Captain Kyle was buried in the family plot in the Kyle Cemetery.
